Tehran, IRNA – Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has said that the United Nations Security Council is in need of reform 80 years after its establishment while stressing that the international body should change in a way that it could also represent the interests of African and Latin American countries.

Brazil believes that a multipolar world is better than unipolar hegemony or bipolar conflict, Lula said in an interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera  on Wednesday.

He said that UN Security Council is a structure that needs reform, as it represents the balance of power in the world in 1945.

“Almost 80 years later, many things have changed, and we need a larger and more representative council, with voices from Latin America and Africa, to really contribute to peace and security,” Lula said.
