Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s organ transplantation index has improved from 7.8 million per population (pmp) in the Iranian calendar year to March 2021 to 12.2 pmp in the year to March 2023, according to a health official.

Amir Hesam Alirezaei, the head of a transplantation and treatment center affiliated to Iran’s Ministry of Health, said that organ donations stood at 645 cases in the year to March 2021.

He added that the figure improved to 928 cases in the year to March 2022 and 1016 cases in the year to March 2023.  

The official noted that Iran has registered as much as 40,095 cases of kidney transplantations making this surgery the number one organ transplantation in the country.
