Kharrazi met with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Al-Sudani and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein on Tuesday as part of his ongoing visit to Baghdad. They discussed strategic cooperation between Iran and Iraq, and stressed the need to expand relations.
Kharrazi appreciated the success of the new Iraqi government in establishing stability and security in the country, stating, “The Islamic Republic of Iran considers the progress and development of Iraq as its own progress and development.”
Al-Sudani, for his part, welcomed increased strategic dialogue with Iran, and expressed gratitude for the Islamic Republic's role in combating Daesh terrorists and establishing stability in his country.
“Iraq still faces numerous challenges, and the enhancement of bilateral relations can assist Iraq in dealing with these challenges,” he noted.
Fuad Hussein, the Iraqi top diplomat, also reiterated his country's readiness to help reduce tensions in the region and expand regional cooperation.
