Tehran, IRNA – Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has appointed Mohsen Rezaei, a veteran politician and a former military commander, as head of the Supreme Council of Economic Coordination for the three branches of the Iranian government.

Raisi issued a decree on Monday appointing Rezaei to the new post while accepting his resignation from a job he took in 2021 as the deputy for economic affairs at the Iranian Presidency.

Rezaei has served for 14 years as secretary of the Iranian Expediency Council.

He is best known for his 16 years as commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) during and after the Iraqi imposed war on Iran in the 1980s.
