Tehran, IRNA – Iranian professor Firouz Naderi who took over major leadership roles at the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration for over three decades and received the NASA outstanding leadership medal, has died at the age of 77.

Naderi died on Friday a week after he released a photo of himself on a hospital bed after he was paralyzed from neck due to an accident, said a Saturday report by the Young Journalists Club, a subsidiary of Iran's state TV. 

Born in the southern Iranian city of Shiraz in 1946, Naderi had settled in the United States since he was about 18. He was a former director of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. 

NASA had named an asteroid in the solar system after him some seven years ago of which he said, “It will be going around the Sun for billions of years after I am gone".
