Tehran, IRNA - Iran's Supreme Council of Cultural Revolution has underlined that the Khordad 15, 1342 (June 6, 1963) Uprising in Iran planted the seeds for the Islamic Revolution under the leadership of Imam Khomeini in February 1979.

The Council issued a statement on Sunday to commemorate the anniversary of demonstrations on June 5 and 6, 1963 to protest against the arrest of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini after his denouncement of Iran's former Shah and the Zionist regime of Israel.

The Allameh Tabataba'i University (ATU) also released a message on this occasion and said that the Khordad 15 Uprising reminds everyone of the sacrifices by Imam Khomeini’s supporters in 1963 which finally led to the Revolution in 1979.
