Tehran, IRNA – Iran has confiscated more than 2.5 million liters of smuggled fuel as part of a three-day campaign against goods and foreign currencies smugglers, according to a senior police official.  

General Hossein Rahimi, Iran’s Economic Security Police chief, said on Wednesday that the country had conducted an operation in which 2.637 million liters of smuggled fuel worth at an estimated market price of 790 billion rials ($1.55 million) were confiscated.

During the operations, the Iranian police screened more than 21,000 fuel tankers, the official said.

He added that some 117 people were arrested and 74 fuel carrying vehicles were seized for connections with fuel smuggling networks.
