Tehran, IRNA – Iran's electricity consumption has reached a new record of 58,000 megawatts (58 gigawatts) at peak hours in late May, the latest data has reported.

Iran's Grid Management Company said on Sunday that rising temperatures had caused a major surge in demand for cooling in Iran a day earlier. 

The Company said demand for power had risen by 13,460 megawatts compared to the corresponding day the year.
