Tehran, IRNA – Watermelon topped the list of Iranian agri-food exports in the first month of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21-April 20) with some $46.54 million worth of sales, according to a report released by Iran's Ministry of Agriculture-Jihad (MAJ).

An MAJ report published on Thursday showed that Iran had exported over 801,000 metric tons (mt) of agricultural and food products worth $438.6 mln over the month to late April.  

The export figure is a 19.48% decline in volume terms and a 2.81% rise in value terms compared with the same period last year, said the report.

The list of top agri-food products exported from Iran in the months to late April included tomatoes with $49.78 mln, milk powder with $30.03 mln, eggs with $26.55 mln, and apples with $16.96 mln.

In terms of weight, watermelon topped the list with 221,690 mt, followed by tomato with 108,350 mt, apples with 37,850 mt, Persian melons with 35,230 mt, and dates with 29,480 mt, said the report.
