Tehran, IRNA – Iran has chosen 55-year-old Turkish coach Hakan Demir as the new head coach of Iran's national basketball team.

The appointed was announced on Wednesday by the Iranian Basketball Federation.

Demir has served as head coach of the Turkish national basketball team. He will lead Iran into 2023 FIBA World Cup. 

Based on a draw held on April 29, the Iranian national basketball team will face tough opponents in Group 7 of the games, namely defending champions Spain and Brazil, as well as Ivory Coast.

The 2023 FIBA World Cup will be held from August 25 to September 10 in the Philippines, Indonesia, and Japan.

Manila will host matches played in Groups 1-4, while matches played in Groups 5-6 and Groups 7-8 of the tournament will be hosted by Okinawa and Jakarta, respectively.
