Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s Minister of Information and Communications Technology has said that some 8 to 10 million Iranian households and businesses will have access to optical fiber communication lines until March 19, 2024.

In an interview with Iranian television late on Monday, Issa Zarepour said that the Iranian government is serious in its plans to develop optic fiber technology in Iran.

Zarepour said that around 2.7 million people in Iran are currently covered by optical fiber services, adding that the figure will increase to 3 million on the occasion of World Communications Day on May 21.

The Iranian minister added that the fixed broadband internet speed in Iran is 11 Mbps, adding that the speed reaches up to 900 Mbps for households and businesses with access to optical fiber.
