Tabriz, IRNA – Tabriz, a city of nearly two million people in northwest Iran, has been designated as the least polluted metropolis in Iran during the first 45 days of the Iranian calendar year (starting on March 21).

According to a Saturday statement by Iran's National Weather Service affiliated to Department of Environment, Tabriz, the capital city of East Azerbaijan Province, had 14 days of clean air and 29 days with moderate air quality over the 45 days to May 4.

Head of the provincial Department of Environment Shahnam Ashtari told IRNA that other major metropolitan regions in Iran, including Tehran, Ahvaz, Arak, Karaj and Mashhad, had recorded many days with low-quality air over the same period.
