Tehran, IRNA – The number of Iranian pilgrims to visit Saudi Arabia's holy Islamic sites for the annual hajj pilgrimage will double this year compared with 2022, Iran’s Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development (MRUD) Mohammad Mohammadi-Bakhsh said on Thursday.

Mohammadi-Bakhsh, who also heads the Civil Aviation Organization affiliated with the MRUD, made the announcement at a seminar attended by hajj organizers and heads of branches of Iran’s National Airline (Iran Air).

He said that the number of Iranians set to attend the hajj pilgrimage will double this year and added that Iran Air will do its utmost in order for the Iranian pilgrims to have a good trip.

The pilgrims are due to be flown to Saudi Arabia through 800 flights by Iran Air.  

According to official figures, 39,635 pilgrims from the Islamic Republic visited Saudi Arabia in 2022 for the annual hajj pilgrimage.
