Tehran, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Ministry in a statement has advised the United States to take a lesson from what happened to its military forces in Tabas, in eastern Iran, in 1980.

The US should think deeply about the results of the Tabas incident and also about its four-decade-long animosity toward the resistant Iranian nation, said the Ministry in a statement released late on Tuesday.

On April 25, 1980, the US forces entered Tabas in the then Khorasan province to free the American hostages held in Iran but were taken off-guard at night by dust and sand.

The day is reminiscent of the aggressive violation of the territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic of Iran by US forces and their illegal entry into the Tabas desert, the Foreign Ministry statement said, adding that fortunately, the aggressive measure taught the US a bitter lesson as its forces faced a humiliation during the failed operation in Tabas.

Despite all the threats and sanctions from the United States over the years, the Islamic Republic of Iran continues to deepen its relations with world nations and international bodies based on mutual respect and preservation of joint interests, it said.
