Tehran, IRNA – Some 38,248 village councils are operating across Iran which are providing services to more than 95% of the Iranian rural population, according to an official with the knowledge of the matter.

Hamid Mollanouri, who serves as Deputy Head for Iran's Municipalities Organization affiliated to the Interior Ministry, said that as much as 643 village councils has been established in Iran during the Iranian year to March 21.

The Interior Ministry has plans to open village councils in all Iranian villages with more than 20 households, the official said, noting that the scheme would seek to provide services to the entire rural population in Iran.
