Seyyed Mohammad-Reza Mousavi who was speaking in a press conference on the occasion, said, "The effective component of Acetaminophen is produced based on indigenous knowledge and the entire facilities used in producing Para Amino Phenyl commercially are made in Iran, and the Iranian medical factories are now capable of presenting in pills and syrups."
He said that Iran had reached self-sufficiency in production of Acetaminophen two years ago during the Corona Pandemic, when the usage of the pills and syrups of it were highly increased, but its effective factor was imported from India, but now thanks to the efforts made by the Iranian researchers and scientists, the cooperation of the Food and Medicine Organization of the Health Ministry and the knowledge-based companies, we have reach full self-sufficiency in its production.
He said that the achievement is the result of 30 months of hard work and over ten million dollars of investments and the first production line of the product was opened in Shahzand, Arak, today on March 8, 2023.
He said that 90% of the produced Para Amino Phenyl is used in production of Acetaminophen pills and syrups, while 9% of it, too, is used in other industries and this achievement is also the harbinger of Iran's entry into the production field of the effective factors in many other medicines.
Mousavi said that the world is now in need of 170,000 metric tons of Acetaminophen, which will be increased to 200,000 tons soon, and China and India are currently the producers of its effective factor, while Iran, too, can after this self-sufficiency compete with those countries in this field's exports.
He added that now in addition to covering Iran's needs to Acetaminophen Iran is providing 80% of Iraq's needs to this drug, which is also reexported to other countries from there.
