Tehran, IRNA - Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy Mahdi Safari expressed Iran’s readiness to play significant role in Shanghai Cooperation Organization transportation arrangements.

Safari made the remarks in a Tuesday meeting in Tehran with Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Zhang Ming.

“Half of SCO members are landlocked countries and the other half, including Iran, are on the transit road. Thus, Iran is ready to play a key role in SCO’s arrangements for transportation cooperation,” said the Iranian diplomat.

Referring to the importance of multilateralism in Iran’s foreign policy, he described economic cooperation with blocs and countries as the focus of such multilateralist approach.

He added that Iran’s full membership in the SCO will ensure that both sides could enjoy major benefits from their cooperation.

Ming, for his part, said that transit, energy and technology are areas where the SCO is focused on, adding that Iran’s accession to the bloc will definitely deepen cooperation in the organization.

He said that Iran has a clear understanding of the situation in the SCO as the country moves closer to joining the organization.
