Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has emphasized that there is still time to return to the 2015 nuclear deal, but the opportunity will not remain forever.

The Iranian FM told the American radio network NPR that an agreement to revive the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is still available and that all signatories to the deal have time to return to the agreement, but the opportunity will not be on place endlessly, because the Iranian side has not see any profit of the JCPOA, so the window will not remain open forever.

We do not put all our eggs in the basket of the JCPOA, he said, warning that despite the fact that there is still an opportunity to revitalize the deal, we have prepared a plan B as well.

if the Americans act realistically, and uphold our rights, the deal is within reach and there is still opportunity for all the parties to return to the JCPOA, the FM said, noting that the US should take steps in line with logics, because we paved the ground for reaching the final step in last months, and we reiterate that we are determined to reach a consensus.

On Iran’s cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), he noted that Iran has good relations with the UN nuclear watchdog, adding that IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi would visit Iran soon.

We have enormous capabilities in utilizing nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. In response to the improper measures by the US and within the framework of reciprocity, we heightened our peaceful nuclear activities. However, on the basis of our beliefs and values, we are not seeking nuclear bombs, Amirabdollahian said.

Asked about prisoner swap with the US, the minister said that the exchange of inmates is a humanitarian issue and that a agreement on this matter is on the table and a set of technical measures should be taken by the American side to pave the way for the prisoner swap.
