Tehran, IRNA – Iranian students residing in southern Turkiye, where a powerful earthquake struck early on Monday, are safe and sound, with measures underway to evacuate them from the disaster-hit areas.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian held separate phone calls with Iran's ambassador to Ankara and the Iranian consul general in the city of Erzurum following the devastating quake.

The top diplomat was briefed on the situation of the Iranians residing in Turkiye, including the students living in the quake-stricken regions.

Amirabdollahian was told that the students were safe and sound and were being evacuated.
