Birjand, IRNA – A 5.1-magnitude earthquake hit Boshraviyeh in the northeastern Iranian province of South Khorasan on Saturday afternoon.

The quake occurred at 16:54 hours local time (13:24 GMT) at a depth of 8 kilometers underground, according to the director of Crisis Management Headquarters of South Khorasan Province.

Mohammad-Ali Akhoundi said that the epicenter of the quake was registered at 3 kilometers from the city of Boshraviyeh.

Boshraviyeh is some 300 kilometers from Birjand, the capital city of South Khorasan Province.

The quake was also felt in the cities of Ferdous and Tabas, Akhoundi said, adding that rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the quake-stricken areas.
