Tehran, IRNA – The largest crude atmospheric distillation refinery in the Middle East continues to operate at Abadan Refinery in Iran.

The refinery said in a statement on Tuesday that a second phase of its atmospheric distillation unit with a capacity of processing 210,000 barrels per day (bpd) of crude oil was operating properly.  

It said a first phase of the project which had come on line in 2005 has a capacity of processing of 150,000 bpd of crude.

The 110-year-old Abadan Refinery, once the world’s largest, has embarked on a series of renovation projects by making use of state-of-the-art technologies from domestic companies.

The refinery said in its statement that is also home to the Middle East’s largest hydrocracker unit with a capacity of more than 42,000 bpd.

It said Iranian engineers have finalized plans and installations for naphtha hydrogen refining unit (NHT) at the refinery with a capacity of 65,000 bpd.
