Public Relations of the National Geological and Mines Discovery Organization quoted geologist Nazanin Badri's review of the international registration of Tabas Geopark, and the role played by her organization in the discovery of potentials and technical supervision over the geoparks' affairs, as saying, "The Tabas geopark, after the Qeshm and Aras international geoparks, gained the positive vote of the UNESCO Supreme World Geoparks Council, and with thus be internationally registered as Iran's 3rd geopark next spring."
She said that the requested file for Tabas Geopark membership was forwarded in November of the year 2021, after five years of initial activities and the executive phases of preparing the preservation infrastructures and their descriptive narration in the Local Academic Geo-Site.
The official said that in August 2022, two international inspectors dispatched by UNESCO, came for a final visit of the geo-site in Tabas, reiterating, "At the UNESCO Supreme World Geoparks Council session, held on December 8th, 2022, the Tabas Geopark gained the unanimous vote of the entire members and the UNESCO green card for membership in International Geoparks Network. But the international registration of this 3rd internationally registered geo-park of Iran will be in next spring after the confirmation of the UNESCO Executive Council.
This geologist expert further reiterated that the National Geological and Mines Discovery Organization of Iran is the oldest and most experienced one in the Middle East from the viewpoint of terrestrial heritage studies, and has played a key and major role in organizing and management of the geological studies of the country's geoparks, as well as the activities on discovery and introduction of unique natural phenomena systematically and scientifically.
