Iran’s goalkeeper Aliraza Beiranvand – known as Beyro – was badly injured in the very first minutes of the game and the Iranian manager Carlos Queiroz was forced to substitute him with Hossein Hosseini. The substitution of Beyro came as a blow to the Iranian team at the beginning of the tournament.
The English team scored three goals in the first half and another three goals in the second half.
However it was Mehdi Taremi who found the back of the net of England in the 65th minute to score Iran’s first goal.
The FC Porto striker also scored for a second time for Iran in the stoppage time from the penalty spot so as to lessen the harshness of the defeat.
Iran is scheduled to play its second game of the tournament against Wales on November 25.
The United States is another team which has been pitted against Iran in Group B of the competition.
