Tehran, IRNA – Following the failure of meddling policies of the United States and its allies in Venezuela, the government of President Nicolás Maduro has been on the verge of de-escalation and could strengthen its grip on all main entities in the Latin American country.

As the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference, more commonly referred to as Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC, or COP27, is being held from 6 November until 18 November 2022 in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, some European officials have met with Maduro, and their handshakes have been one of the most interesting subjects of the event.

The footage of a short encounter between the Venezuelan president and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron on the sidelines of the COP27 on Monday was highlighted by numerous media outlets. On Tuesday, Maduro and Portugal’s Prime Minister António Costa met. John Kerry, former secretary of state of the United States, welcomed Maduro.

The leftist president of the Latin American country also held talks with his Colombian counterpart, when he suggested reinvigoration of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization.

Maduro’s victory in the 2019 elections was a bitter political failure for the US and its European allies; then, they imposed sanctions on Venezuela, so France along with Spain, Britain, the Netherlands, and Portugal asked the then president-elect to hold an early presidential election.

Following his refusal to act in line with the European policies, they recognized Juan Guaidó, the then speaker of the Venezuelan parliament, as the acting president of the Latin American country.

However, after three years of diplomatic aggression by the West against Nicolás Maduro, their dream to overthrow the president did not come true.

The Latin American states have reached the point that they should resolve their political, social, and economic problems not in accordance with the United States’ policies but in negotiations and consolidation of ties with other nations.

The United States’ attempts to instate a pawn president in Venezuela were doomed to fail, and the Maduro administration called for lifting all sanctions while welcoming negotiations with the opposition.

Jorge Rodríguez, the deputy to the National Assembly of Venezuela, has underlined that the country stays in the best situation to reach a public consensus, but the agreement requires removal of sanctions.

In the last three years, the Maduro administration succeeded in consolidating its power in Venezuela and started cooperation at regional and international levels, so the realities on the ground prove that the era of political duality has come to an end in the Latin American country.
