Hamid Nouri has been imprisoned in Sweden since October 2019. He spent some of his incarceration terms in solitary confinement and was deprived of the right to choose a lawyer, contact or visit his family members, meet the so-called witnesses, and even visit a physician for health issues.
On the occasion of the around 3 years of illegal arrest of Hamid Nouri in Sweden, the Media Center of Iran's Judiciary added that despite all follow-ups and promises made, illegal restrictions on Hamid Nouri continued, and in addition to being held in solitary confinement, he still did not have access to an ophthalmologist, his relationship with his family was severely restricted and even the right to study was denied.
Referring to the events that took place the night before the indictment against Nouri, the statement highlighted that Nouri was trying to study the charge to prepare himself for the court, which Swedish police officers severely beat him by attacking the solitary confinement.
Pointing to Nouri's lack of access to an ophthalmologist in all of the past 36 months of his illegal detention, the statement underlined that Hamid Nouri faces a dangerous weakening of his eyes and the possibility of blindness, and despite repeated requests and follow-ups from the Swedish judiciary and prison, this Iranian citizen has not yet been granted access to an ophthalmologist.
Referring to the illegal actions in the process of investigating Hamid Nouri's case, it is emphasized that this unjust process has continued after the initial ruling of life imprisonment for him, and Nouri has faced many problems and limitations in the path of freely choosing a lawyer for the appeal phase.
It is worth mentioning that the Swedish court conducted the hearing based on the testimony of about 60 members of the terrorist organization MKO, who claimed that Nouri played the role of a prison guard nearly four decades ago.
The court did not allow any of the witnesses to testify in favor of the Iranian citizen.
Several weeks ago, Nouri in an audio file said that he had been tortured while in custody and was denied medical care despite suffering from eye problems.
He also criticized human rights organizations for letting him down and failing to provide him the chance to speak about his ordeals.
The Media Center of the Judiciary emphasized that the Judiciary and the Human Rights Headquarters of the Islamic Republic of Iran, along with other responsible departments, will pursue the trampled rights of Hamid Nouri, citing the Swedish government and judiciary as responsible for these illegal and inhumane acts, and urging them to immediately end the process of these unjust and completely political, illegal acts against Nouri.
