Tehran, IRNA – Managing Director of the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) Ali Naderi has urged the members of the Organization of the Asia-Pacific News Agency (OANA) to play more active role in the current world.

Naderi made the remarks in a meeting with the secretary-general of the Organization of Asia Pacific News Agencies on the sidelines of the 18th General Assembly of the OANA on Tuesday, expressing hope that the event will strengthen cooperation among independent media networks.

Given the fact that the media system, which dominates the world, is changing, the Iranian official urged more active role of the OANA members.

Pointing to cooperation between IRNA and South Korean Yonhap news agency, Naderi said that the two news agencies have had very good cooperation, which is expected to improve in the future.

The OANA secretary general wished success for IRNA, referring to good collaboration between the Iranian news agency and South Korea's Yonhap.

In the meeting, a top manager of the Yonhap news agency proposed an update of the current memorandum of understanding between the two news agencies.

IRNA hosts the 18th General Assembly of the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA), which kicked off in the capital Tehran on October 24.

In the two-day assembly, around 60 senior directors, managers, and editors from 35 OANA member states discuss various topics, including the development and strengthening of media cooperation.

IRNA along with Fars and Mehr news agencies are the three media agencies in Iran representing the Islamic country in the OANA.

At the end of the 18th General Assembly of the OANA in Tehran, a communiqué is going to be issued by the members on Tuesday.
