Tehran, IRNA - Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said on Tuesday that the US must end economic terrorism against Iran, instead of shedding crocodile tears.

"An investigation was ordered into tragic death of Mahsa, who, as President said, was just like our own daughters," Amirabdollahian wrote on his Twitter account on Tuesday.

He added that “to Iran, human rights are of inherent value-unlike those who see it a tool against adversaries".

"Instead of shedding crocodile tears, US must end Economic Terrorism," he reiterated.

Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Iranian girl, fainted in police custody in Tehran and died shortly afterwards in a nearby hospital.

The death of Mahsa Amini triggered public anger and sympathy among the Iranian people so President Ebrahim Raisi called her family on Sunday when he said that he had ordered the incident to be investigated carefully so that no right would be violated.

"Your daughter is like my own daughter, and I feel that this incident happened to one of my loved ones. Please accept my condolences," the Iranian president said.

Earlier, Iranian Judiciary Chief Hojjatoleslam Gholam-Hossein Mohseni Ejei said that the Judiciary will closely investigate the case of Mahsa Amini's death.

Mohseni Ejei assured the family of late Mahsa Amini that after the Iranian Legal Medicine Organization finishes its study of the case, the results will be announced without any special considerations.

He said that he has ordered the judicial bodies to carry out a thorough investigation of the case and check all the available CCTVs.

The official said that the Islamic Republic of Iran is proud that it does not turn a blind eye to any incident no matter to which organization it is related.
