Arbaeen, symbol of unity in Islamic society: Iran minister

Orumiyeh, IRNA – Arbaeen – Shia Muslims’ mourning ritual – is a symbol of unity in the big Islamic society, Iran’s interior minister said on Sunday.

The Sunni Muslims' serving the Arbaeen pilgrims is invaluable and invalidates all efforts to sow discord between Shia and Sunnis, Ahmad Vahidi told reporters on the sidelines of a visit to Tamarchin border crossing point with Iraq.

Tamarchin border, northwestern Iran, is ready to serve tens of thousands of people to enter Iraq.

Arbaeen which falls on September 17 this year is a mourning ritual observed by Shia Muslims worldwide marking the 40th day after the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS) – the third Shia Imam and the grandson of Prophet Mohammad [PBUH].

Millions of Shia Muslims from across the world walk tens of kilometers to get to the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain (AS) in Karbala on Arbaeen Day.
