Tehran, IRNA – A senior Iranian foreign ministry official said that Tehran and Moscow were working towards making an interbank payments system like the SWIFT as a countermeasure against Western sanctions.

In an interview with the Russian media Sputnik, Deputy Foreign Minister on Economic Diplomacy Mehdi Safari said that the two countries that seek to de-dollarize the transactions should naturally have a payments system like the SWIFT.

Iranian and Russian sides have presented a proposed system each and the two countries have reached an agreement to implement such a system, Safari noted.

He said that the Russian payment system Mir would soon be launched in Iran.
