Mashad, IRNA – The director-general of Razavi Khorasan foreign nationals and immigrants office said that despite the massive influx of immigrants to the province over the last few months, returning to their homeland has experienced a significant increase.

Speaking to IRNA, Ali Qasemi said that over 200,000 unauthorized Afghan nationals registered in the census plan, many of whom have decided to return home due to a lack of jobs and expensive housing fees.

Stressing the Iranian government’s approach in support of Afghans during recent developments, he noted that security in Afghanistan has improved under the Taliban compared with the previous government, and it has caused the return of the Afghan immigrants to their homeland.

He went on to say that 95% of the authorized and unauthorized Afghan nationals in the province are living in Mashad.

Qasemi said that about half a million authorized immigrants are now living in Mashad.
