Tehran, IRNA – A 38-year-old woman in the US state of Florida has been found guilty of starving her son to death by only feeding him raw vegetables and fruits.

Sheila O’Leary’s son, Ezra, died when he was 18 months because he only ate fruits and vegetables during his entire life time.

O’Leary and his husband were already indicted in December 2019 for abusing and neglecting their four children including Ezra who died that same year.

Now, the mother has been found guilty of first-degree murder for starving to death her toddler.

“She made choices that killed her child,” said Francine Donnorummo, Special Victims Unit Chief at the Florida State Attorney’s Office.

The ruling was announced on Tuesday a week after closing arguments in O’Leary’s trial began.

Jurors had rejected the woman and her husband’s defense that their family had followed a strict vegan diet.

The mom now faces a life sentence which is due to begin on July 25.

Her husband, Ryan, is expected to go on trial later in 2022.
