London, IRNA – The Permanent Representative of Russia to International Organizations in Vienna called on the United States to take a more forthcoming position on the Vienna talks to remove sanctions against Iran.

“It is high time for the US to take a more forthcoming position in the course of the #ViennaTalks if #Washington is really committed to the restoration of the #JCPOA,” Ulyanov said in a tweet on Wednesday.

Vienna talks reached a stalemate as a result of inconsistency in US behavior and their procrastination in making a decision on compensating for their illegal measures against Iran and the nuclear deal.

The Biden administration which claimed to have a diplomatic approach to Iran and return to the 2015 Iran nuclear deal has yet to take a reliable measure to show goodwill.

Almost all remaining parties in the deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), want a forthcoming conclusion, but this awaits US political decision on a few outstanding issues.

Iran and the US had a two-day indirect negotiation in Doha, Qatar, last week after EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell made a visit to Tehran.

During the negotiations which were facilitated by deputy EU foreign policy chief Enrique Mora, Iran presented its initiative on the outstanding issues and the US put forth its observations.

Amirabdollahian had a positive assessment of the talks afterward but said that it was up to the US to seize the opportunity of diplomacy.

He also said during a phone call with his French counterpart on Monday that Washington attended Doha talks without a progressive approach.

The next round of EU-facilitated Iran-US indirect talks is being planned but the time has yet to be decided.
