Tehran, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said on Tuesday that cordial relations between Iran and Turkmenistan have been strongly founded.

Amirabdollahian made the remarks during a meeting in Tehran with his Turkmen counterpart Rasit Meredow which took place on the eve of a visit to Tehran by Turkmenistan’s President Serdar Berdimuhamedow.  

He once again congratulated the successful holding of presidential elections in Turkmenistan, and said that Turkmen  president's visit to Tehran on the 30th anniversary of the establishment of relations between the two countries is of paramount importance.

The Turkmen foreign minister, for his part, said that upcoming visit to Tehran by President Serdar Berdimuhamedow is indicative of his country's attention to relations with Iran.

Meredow said that Ashgabat has prepared different plans for this visit and hopes they will become operational during Turkmenistan president's visit to Tehran.

He also called for mutual and multilateral cooperation with Tehran for making the necessary preparations for an upcoming Summit of the Caspian Sea littoral states in Ashgabat.
