Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s Ambassador to Greece Ahmad Naderi has confirmed the overturning of a Greek court ruling that had allowed the US to confiscate part of an Iranian oil cargo on an Iranian-flagged tanker off the Greek coast.

Naderi said on the Iranian Embassy’s Twitter page that the entire confiscated oil shipment will be returned.

Following intensive follow-up, the Greek Court of Appeals overturned the initial court ruling on the confiscation of Iranian oil, he posted, adding that the entire oil shipment will be returned.

Protecting the rights of the Iranian nation is our red line, he noted, saying that the issue will remain on top agenda of talks between Iran and Greece until the full implementation of the ruling is assured.

Earlier on Thursday, the Reuters news agency, citing sources familiar with the matter, said that a Greek court had on Wednesday overturned an earlier court ruling that allowed the US to confiscate part of a cargo of Iranian oil on an Iranian-flagged tanker off the Greek coast.

The initial court ruling was issued in May, leading to a strong protest from Iran which warned Greece of “punitive measures”.

Iran had called the seizure “international piracy”.
