Tehran, IRNA – Iranian Minister of Petroleum Javad Owji held talks with energy ministers of Algeria, Qatar, Venezuela, and Nigeria in Doha on Sunday evening.

Owji, who left Tehran for Doha on Saturday to attend the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) Extraordinary Ministerial Meeting on February 21, held a series of intensive meetings in the Qatari capital.

The petroleum minister also reviewed various issues in the meeting with GECF Secretary General Mohamed Hamel.

In a related development, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi left Tehran today (Monday) for Qatar to take part in the 6th GECF Summit on February 22.

During his bilateral and multilateral meetings, the Iranian minister discussed investment in oil and gas fields, transfer of technology, and swap of gas.

The talks in Doha have prepared several agreements and documents which will be signed in the presence of President Raisi if finalized.

Reportedly, Iran is among world’s biggest oil producers.

The country is also among the founders of the GECF and was secretary general of the organization for two periods.

Iran, Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago, and Venezuela are 11 members of the GECF while Malaysia, Norway, Iraq, Peru, Azerbaijan, and the United Arab Emirates are observers.

Having a strong position in the global energy markets, the GECF member countries together represent 44 percent of the world gas production, 67 percent of the world proven natural gas reserves, 64 percent of transfer of gas through pipeline and 66 percent of LNG exports.
