"Aid to the country should be continued regardless of political interests and legal implications," Rasoul Mousavi, Assistant to Foreign Minister and Director General of South Asia said in an exclusive interview with IRNA on Saturday evening on the sidelines of the OIC meeting in Islamabad.
He said that the main objective of the conference is to arrange humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan.
Mousavi further said that the issue of Palestine also came under discussion at the meeting and statement in this regards has also been approved.
"However further discussion will be held to formulate the joint statement of the OIC meeting on Afghanistan," he added.
The head of Iranian delegation stated that objective of the OIC meeting is to help Afghanistan through humanitarian aid and there is a consensus among all member states in this regards.
He said all delegations of the OIC member states are trying to find a way out to provide aid to Afghanistan without any difficulty.
Mousavi said as the government of Afghanistan has not been recognized by the international community so many of the OIC members sates have been stressing upon the need to devise a mechanism for dispatching aid to Afghanistan.
He said Iran supports all international efforts to send humanitarian assistance to neighboring Afghanistan and this regards the Islamic Republic has so far sent thirteen aircrafts carrying aid to Afghanistan while border with the country is also open for any relief activity.
Mousavi noted that aid to Afghanistan should continue regardless of political interests and legal implications.
Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hossein Amirabdollahian is scheduled to head a high-level Iran delegation in the extraordinary meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Islamic countries in Islamabad to be held tomorrow (Sunday).
