Patricia Espinosa made the remarks in a meeting with Iran's Vice President and Head of the Department of Environment Ali Salajegheh on Wednesday.
The Iranian official is here to take part in the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as COP26.
The two officials discussed bilateral issues and then Salajegheh elaborated on the moves and measures adopted by Iran in line with usage of clean energies as a top priority.
Among the issues that is seriously pursued by Iran is taking advantage of the capabilities of the young and talented university students, he said, adding that the influential international organizations’ attention and cooperation is necessary for preservation of the environment.
He hoped the international organizations will heed their special responsibility in that respect.
The UNFCCC’s Patricia Espinosa, too, expressed satisfaction that the Iranian delegation has attended the UN conference and said Iran is an oil-rich country with high production capacity that has tried to pave the path towards advancement and development.
Turning the vehicles into hybrid and electrical cars and using clean energies by using modern technologies in transportation are good moves, that we are witnesses to their implementation, added Espinosa.
He said he was glad to know that electrical cars and vehicles are now manufactured in Iran, adding that according to the latest news he has heard electrical cars made in Iran have for the first time received license for being presented to the market.
Those measures are all effective in providing cleaner weather for the society, he added.
The UNFCCC Executive Secretary Espinosa meanwhile referred to Iran’s interactions approach with the world, including participation in conventions in which it is a member.
He added that every country must hand in hand and side by side of each other work to solve the world’s environmental problems today.
The Iranian official and his accompanying delegation on behalf of the Islamic Republic of Iran arrived in Glasgow last Monday to attend the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as COP26.
The 26th UN Climate Change Conference started on Sunday, Nov 31 in the presence of thousands of leaders and representatives of 200 countries in Glasgow, Scotland.
The mast important issues addressed at conference which was delayed for a whole year due to the outspread of Covid-19 disease, were environmental crises, especially the warming process of the earth which has accelerated during the recent decades.
The 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as COP26, is the 26th United Nations Climate Change conference. It is being held at the SEC Centre in Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom, between 31 October and 12 November 2021, under the presidency of Alok Sharma.
