Tehran, IRNA - Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian met and held talks with his Turkmen counterpart Rashid Meredov in Tehran on Tuesday.

Turkmen Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Meredov, who arrived in Tehran on Tuesday morning heading a high-level delegation, was welcomed by his Iranian counterpart.

The Turkmen diplomatic delegation will attend the the 16th annual Joint Economic and Cultural Commission meeting.

The Turkmen Foreign Minister will also attend the second Foreign Ministerial Meeting of Neighbors of Afghanistan hosted by Tehran.

It should be noted that at the initiative of Pakistan, the first meeting of Afghanistan's neighbors was held on September 8, 2021.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi will inaugurate the second ministerial meeting and deliver a speech to it.

Earlier, the spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry announced that the meeting will be held with the participation of foreign ministers of six neighbors to Afghanistan, adding that the Uzbek, Tajik, Turkmen, and Pakistani foreign ministers will take part in person while the Chinese and Russian foreign ministers will attend the meeting online; meanwhile, representatives from Beijing and Moscow will be present in the meeting.

Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres will dispatch a message to the Tehran important meeting and his message indicates that Islamic Republic of Iran is the center of active diplomacy which takes step towards regional peace and stability, the spokesman noted.
