Tehran, IRNA - Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian's recent visit to Lebanon has been analyzed as a step to strengthen regional convergence, alter international equations, and reiterate Tehran's support for Lebanese people especially in difficult time of economic siege.

Amirabdollahian heading a high-ranking delegation arrived in Beirut on Thursday. He held talks with various Lebanese officials such as the president, the parliament speaker, the prime minister, the foreign minister, and the secretary general of Hezbollah Resistance Movement, as well as representatives of Palestinian groups.

Upon his arrival at Beirut Airport, the Iranian top diplomat underlined that the Islamic Republic will spare no efforts to support Lebanon if demanded, adding that Tehran will stand by the Lebanese people to overcome all hardships.

As to cooperation in electricity, oil, and gas fields, he emphasized that Iran is ready to help Lebanon get rid of shortages in these fields within the framework of international law.

During his discussion with his Lebanese counterpart, Amirabdollahian stated that there are great capacities to expand all-out ties and that both sides can develop collaborations in economic and tourism arenas, as well as in containing COVID-19 pandemic.

The Iranian official also noted that the Islamic Republic is prepared to hold a joint commission in the near future.

Addressing reporters, he stressed that Iran is keen on assisting Lebanon to overcome the existing economic crisis, while respecting independence and territorial integrity of the Arab and Islamic country.

According to the FM, Iran can dispatch technicians and engineers to Lebanon and invest in the country in order to set up two power plants within 18 months.

The Islamic Republic is also ready to construct subway in Lebanon, he said, adding that moreover, Tehran can provide Beirut with medicines, food stuff, and basic goods.

As to the United States' cruel sanctions on regional countries, Amirabdollahian emphasized that leaders and nations of the region will not allow the Americans to push forward their economic war. Analysts believe that the Iranian foreign minister's trip to Lebanon is part of efforts to break the siege imposed by the United States.

Iran has recently sent some fuel tankers to Lebanon to back the besieged country, which is grappling with fuel shortages.

The FM also underlined that the resistance movement is of great importance in Lebanon and the region, because Hezbollah stands with the people in all hardships.

In a meeting with Lebanon's President Michel Aoun, the Iranian top diplomat warned that presence of foreign boots on the ground is the root cause of instability and insecurity in the West Asia region, urging regional states to reach a consensus without any foreign involvement.
