Amirabdollahian made the remarks in a meeting held in New York, US, with his German counterpart Heiko Maas on Tuesday.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 76th session of the General Assembly on September 21-27.
In the meeting, the two reviewed foreign policy of the new Iranian government, the issue of the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), and Vienna talks.
Talks between Iran and 4+1 started as of April 2 while the United States is indirectly attending the talks.
As Amirabdollahian said, Iran expects that economic privileges, which had to be given to Iran in line with implementation of the JCPOA, would be guaranteed this time.
US withdrew unilaterally from the July 2015 nuclear deal in May 2018 and imposed the highest level of sanctions on Iran in November the same year.
Iranian officials insist that as long as the US has not lifted the sanctions, Iran will not agree to let it join the deal.
As the Iranian foreign minister underlined, the US should know that all give and take has been done once at the JCPOA; and now, Vienna talks are for guaranteeing US return to its commitments, not for a new agreement.
What Iran sees in the new US administration’s policies is continuation of former US president Donald Trump’s approach towards illegal sanctions, he added.
He went on to say that the other side should come to Vienna after with the needed flexibility and understanding of the new conditions created by the accession of the new Iranian government Iran.
New government seriously follows up a policy on not tying domestic economy to the JCPOA, the foreign minister stressed.
Then, he expressed Tehran’s readiness to plan relations independent from the JCPOA.
About Tehran-Berlin cooperation, the foreign minister said it is not satisfactory and needs to be improved.
For his part, the German foreign minister said his country is committed to the JCPOA and makes its all-out efforts to preserve and revive it.
Welcoming the recent travel of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) chief to Tehran which led to an agreement between the two sides, Mass stressed the importance of all sides’ efforts to lead the Vienna talks to success.
About Berlin-Tehran ties, Maas said if trade exchange between the two countries is at a level lower than expectation, it is because of the conditions that have been out of control of both sometimes.
At the end, the two discussed developments in Afghanistan and underlined the need to form an inclusive government there.
