Tehran, IRNA – Foreign Ministry Spokesman said on Sunday that Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian would leave for New York tomorrow to take part in the United Nations General Assembly.

The Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh also said that 45 bilateral meetings with foreign ministers from different countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America, as well as heads of international organizations, Secretary General, President of Security Council, and many others have been planned for Amirabdollahian.

Khatibzadeh said that there was still no decision on Amirabdollahian’s participation in a 4+1 foreign ministers meeting and the decision would be taken once the topic and agenda of the meeting is known, but Amirabdollahian would have bilateral meetings with all foreign ministers of 4+1.

On the Lebanese prime minister's remarks about Iran’s selling fuel to Lebanese, the spokesman said that this was a normal path of purchase, as Lebanese businessmen bought fuel and Iran shipped their purchase.

He also noted that if the Lebanese government wishes to buy fuel from Iran to solve the problems its people are facing with, Tehran would deliver the fuel.

On the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit held on Friday, Khatibzadeh said that serious agreement was reach on several points on the situation in Afghanistan, including formation of an inclusive government and no foreign interference.

He also remarked on the US violation of human rights in the world and in Afghanistan, criticizing international human rights bodies that haven’t satisfied expectations of the world community, as US and a few countries consider themselves as exceptions to international law.

However, Khatibzadeh underlined that Iran stands against this and conveys the message of fighting against dominance and that the good news is that more voices have joined Iran.

On Iran’s permanent membership in the SCO, Khatibzadeh said that it is a multi-dimensional organization that has various capacities to enjoy. He also added that the SCO and Iran can mutually leverage each other’s capacities, as President Ebrahim Raisi noted that Iran’s presence makes the organization more powerful.


Noting that the combination of Iran’s nuclear negotiating team was yet to be finalized, the diplomat said that if the US leaves its unilateral approach, the talks in Vienna would be in a better direction.


About the issues regarding a highway connecting Iran to Armenia, the spokesman highlighted Iran’s policy on prioritizing territorial integrity of the neighboring countries, saying that Iran tries to leverage its capacities with regards to its neighbors in a balanced manner.


Asked about the detention of Iranian truck drivers by Azerbaijani officials, Khatibzadeh noted that Iran has followed up the issue and has requested immediate release of the drivers and a meeting of officials to provide a sustainable solution to the issue.
