Referring to the 50th anniversary of Tehran-Beijing relations, Asefi in an interview with China Central Radio and Television said that the current developments in the world have increased the importance of Beijing-Tehran relations.
Pointing to the significance of relations between Iran and China, he noted the authenticity of ties between Iran and China is very important, adding that the current developments in the world have increased this importance.
Terming the world's status as a transient unstable situation and calling China as a global superpower plus an Asian country and Iran as an Asian country plus transregional power, Asefi said that Iran-China relations are meaningful.
Regarding Iran's role in the "One Belt-One Road" initiative, he highlighted that Iran and China have a complementary economy. That is, what China needs, Iran can give it and vice versa.
He stated that Iran and China need to identify the capacities of the two countries, which are very high, and see the possibility of cooperation, and then they must cooperate to develop a regional convergence for providing security and regional understanding.
Referring to the Iran-China 25 Year Comprehensive Strategic Cooperation Plan, Iran's former Foreign Ministry spokesperson said that the document could be a roadmap for Iran's cooperation with China.
Regarding the importance of "the policy of looking to the East", Asefi said that the definitive policy of the government is to balance the foreign relations of the Islamic Republic of Iran and to make the view of the East more pronounced.
