Tehran, IRNA – An Iranian health official announced that nearly 40 percent of people have received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 18 percent have received the second shot, as well.

Chancellor of University of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation Sciences Professor Hamidreza Khankeh said that in a specialized webinar on COVID-19 that vaccination in Iran gained a significant pace in the last month.

While 42 percent of the world population has been vaccinated against COVID-19 and 33 million doses are administered on a daily basis in a global scale, Khankeh said, about 40 percent of Iranians have received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

He also noted that about 18 percent of Iran’s population has also received the second dose of the vaccine, adding that Iran has seen over 5 million cases and 114,000 deaths from the virus.

Pointing to the current surge in the coronavirus spread in Iran, the professor underlined that the number of deaths per 100 person has decreased in this wave, dropping from 8 to 2.
