“As for the next meeting of the six regional countries, the question of inclusion of the new political dispensation in Afghanistan remains under discussion,” said Asim Iftikhar at his weekly news briefing with foreign and local media in Islamabad.
He said that the next meeting of the foreign ministers of Afghanistan's six neighbors, including Iran, Pakistan, China, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, will soon be hosted by Tehran.
Pakistan's foreign ministry spokesperson said Afghanistan's neighbors are consulting on any presence of the Kabul interim government in the upcoming meeting of foreign ministers of 6 countries in Tehran.
He added that the international conference convened by the UN on Afghanistan is to be held next week in Geneva.
“Pakistan will be a part of it, and as you are aware Pakistan is already providing humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan. And we have a long history of supporting Afghanistan in the humanitarian domain, and we still continue to support over 4 million Afghan refugees,” he said.
The virtual meeting of the foreign ministers of Afghanistan's neighbors was hosted by Pakistan last Wednesday and was attended by the minister of foreign affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
A joint statement of the meeting of the foreign ministers of the six countries says that it was agreed to continue meetings of Foreign Ministers of countries neighboring Afghanistan on a rotating basis, to hold their next meeting in Tehran, and to set up a mechanism of regular consultations of Special Envoys (Special Representatives) for Afghanistan affairs, as well as the regular meetings of representatives of Embassies in Kabul to discuss and coordinate their joint efforts.
