Raisi made the remarks in a telephone conversation with European Council President Charles Michel.
President Raisi expressed Iran’s readiness to expand relations with the European Union and all the European countries.
He noted that sustainable relations with the European Union relies on mutual respect and focusing on common grounds, urging the need for the European side not to depend their acts on the resolve of the bullying powers like the United States.
Referring to the developments in Afghanistan, Raisi said that all countries have to help the formation of a government in Afghanistan which would ensure peace, security and development for the country.
He said that 20 years of US presence in Afghanistan proved that the Afghan issue has no military solution.
Referring to the US violation of a multinational nuclear deal with Iran, the Iranian president said that Iran expected the European countries to remain committed to their promises but they failed to act as they were expected to do.
The European Council president, for his part, said the European Union is eager to promote bilateral economic relations with Iran.
Michel regretted that sanctions have negatively affected relations between Iran and the European Union.
He called for Iran’s more active role to help restore peace and stability in Afghanistan.
