Tehran, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian expressed Iran's support for snap elections in Iraq.

Amirabdollahian made the remarks during his meeting with Iraq's Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halbousi.

At the meeting which was held in the Iraqi capital, Amirabdollahian referred to the upcoming parliamentary elections in Iraq and said that Islamic Republic stresses that early elections would be an arena for manifestation of Iraqi people's will.

Amirabdollahian left for Baghdad on Saturday to take part in summit of regional support for Iraq. On the sidelines of the summit, Iranian foreign minister held talks with several Iraqi officials.

Congratulating Iraq on holding the summit successfully, Amirabdollahian underlined the importance of parliamentary relations between Iran and Iraq.

For his part, the Iraqi parliament speaker expressed readiness for following up bilateral ties with Iran.

In a related development, Iraq has announced that aim behind holding Baghdad summit is to decrease tension in the region, develop economic relations, and solve dispute among Iraq's neighboring states.
