Stressing the importance of the Fund's proposal by the Islamic Republic of Iran to take a regional initiative to help Afghanistan rebuild, Aboutalebi pointed to Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi's approaching visit to Tehran, adding that the upcoming consultations between Iranian and Pakistani officials in Tehran are an appropriate opportunity to present the proposal.
Pakistan's Foreign Ministry announced on Tuesday that Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi is heading to travel to four countries in the region, including the Islamic Republic of Iran, with a consultation agenda on the situation of Afghanistan and increasing the levels of bilateral relations.
Noting that specific objectives have been included in the selection of the term “Afghanistan's regional reconstruction fund”, Iran's former ambassador to Romania told IRNA that the purpose of the term "fund" is that it will be a well-known financial mechanism for the world's public opinion.
Explaining the reason for choosing the term "regional" for the fund's title, he noted that the “regional” concept is that the fund should be managed by the Islamic Republic of Iran, Afghanistan's neighbors, regional countries, and regional banks.
Explaining the reason for choosing the term "reconstruction", he said that given the massive destruction caused by two decades of the US military presence in Afghanistan, the fund's goal is that countries in the region must rush to help Afghanistan by turning these destructions into prosperity and reconstruction.
He also stressed that Afghanistan's regional reconstruction fund should take an equal look at all regions, provinces, ethnicities, and tribes of Afghanistan and include the entire geography of Afghanistan.
