Naser Mirzai told IRNA on Thursday that Imam Hussein (PBUH) and his 72 entourage confronted Yazid, the second Umayyad caliph, in 680 aimed at preserving the holy religion of Islam and the traditions of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Today, the name of Imam Hussein (PBUH) is very well-known throughout the world, Mirzai said, noting that Imam Hussein (PBUH) played key role in terms of affecting Muslim movements all the way through the history of Islam.
The uprising of Imam Hussein (PBUH) signifies the importance of defending faith and unshakable belief, the clergyman added.
The role of Imam Hussein (PBUH) has been remaining through the Islamic history and his martyrdom breaks hearts of all devotees, Mirzai noted.
Imam Hussein (PBUH) is considered one of the caliphs of the Sunni sect, he said, arguing that the Sunni community in Iran attach a great importance to the infallible household of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
More than 23 percent of two million population of Kermanshah province in western Iran are Sunnis.
