Tehran, IRNA – Secretary of Iran’s Expediency Council Mohsen Rezaei met Venezuela’s Vice President Ricardo Menendez who traveled to Tehran to attend Iranian President’s inauguration.

Rezaei and Menendez met in the Secretariat of Expediency Council on Thursday afternoon and discussed international issues and Iran’s ties with Venezuela and other South American nations.

The secretary underlined that Iran never accepted foreign interference in Venezuela’s internal affairs and the cruel sanctions against this nation.

Iran and Venezuela can cooperate to establish a sanctioned nations club, including 15 countries hit by US sanctions, he proposed.

He noted that Venezuela’s independence, resistance and advancement was important to the Islamic Republic of Iran and Tehran was ready to expand ties with Caracas.

Menendez who headed a delegation to Tehran to take part in the inauguration on Thursday of Iran’s new President Ebrahim Raisi underlined that expanding ties with Iran was so significant to Venezuela.

He said that the first phase of Iran-Venezuela relationship started during presidency of the late Hugo Chavez and would still continue.

He emphasized that Caracas would always welcome cooperation with Iran and praise Iran’s sympathy toward the nation.
