Expressing satisfaction about participation of Iranians living in Azerbaijan Republic in the presidential election, Mousavi told reporters that he expected broad presence of Iranian nationals in voting polls stationed in Baku in the afternoon.
In addition to domestic implications, the ambassador opined that high turnout in the election is also important for Iranian diplomats and foreign policy officials in the international arena.
He said that broad participation of people in the election would serve as strong support for the Islamic Republic in foreign policy.
Supreme Leader's representative in Azerbaijan Republic Ali Akbar Ojaqnejad described the Election Day as a national celebration in which people choose the fate of the country for the coming years.
He said that high turnout gives the president a great power to serve the country both in domestic and in international arena.
Iran’s presidential election is being held nationwide as well as in 133 countries.
Some 500 international journalists from 226 foreign media are covering the event in Iran.
59,310,307 Iranians are eligible to vote, from which 1.3 million are first-voters and 3.5 million are Iranians abroad, according to statistics from the Ministry of Interior.
Presidential candidates include Expediency Discernment Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei Mirqaed, Judiciary Chief Ebrahim Raisi, MP Amir-Hossein Ghazizadeh, and former Governor of the Central Bank Abdolnaser Hemmati. Saeed Jalili, Mohsen Mehralizadeh and Alireza Zakani, three other presidential candidates, dropped out of the presidential race.
The 13th presidential election is held simultaneous with the sixth round of city and village councils elections, the first mid-term for 11th parliament’s by-election, and the second mid-term for the fifth Assembly of Experts election.
